This term started with a surprise parcel. Inside were five tiny caterpillars for each class. We looked after the caterpillars for the next few weeks until they formed a chrysalis and then completed metamorphosis into butterflies. We observed and noticed the changes to the caterpillars, as well as the changes in ourselves since we were babies. Each week we had a cricket coach teach us some key cricket skills and we continued to practise on the balance bikes. We have been busy using our phonics knowledge to write sentences and have been learning to add two groups together accurately. We learnt about an artist called, Georgia O’Keeffe and produced some enlarged paintings of butterflies and fossil sculptures. To mark the Queen’s Jubilee, we learnt about the Queen and how she has changed since she was a baby. We made crowns and flags and joined in the school parade.

Cotswold Wildlife Park Year One enjoyed a brilliant trip to Cotswold Wildlife Park. We saw a range of wild animals, including lots African animals which we learned about in our topic last term. Our visit included an excellent animal talk, and it was lovely to all meet up at the end of the day for a ride on the train and some time at the playground. Well done Year One – your behaviour was fantastic!

With a big focus on our science topic of materials and their properties, Year 5 have been conducting lots of scientific enquiries. From fair and comparative tests to observations over time, the children have been investigating solubility, thermal insulators and filtering to recover materials. As well as this, in PE, there have been lots of opportunities to take part in different athletics activities, involving both track and field events. Once again, the children we lucky to take part in another computing session where they were creating stories by coding different sprites.

Olympic Athletics Success! April 2022 13th May 2022 - 41 images

During the afternoon of Thursday 12th May 2022 Team Prestbury competed in the annual Olympic Athletics Festival at St Edwards Junior School. The children competed in a variety of events including individual sprints, individual long distance and team relays. They performaced amazingly well with children from each year group winning events and accumulating points for the team. The children all showed our school Christian values and especially our current value of Perseverence! The whole event came down to the year 6 boys and girls relays and Team Prestbury won both, which meant we won the whole event and came back to school with the trophy! This meant we retained the trophy after winning the last time the event was held in May 2019! Well done TEAM PRESTBURY!

Year One really enjoyed walking around our local area. We identified human and physical features, and we made our teachers proud by demonstrating excellent behaviour and fantastic observational skills!

We have had a fantastic term in Year One, which began with us voting for our school councillors. Orange and Yellow class have worked hard on their reading, and in English, they have written some lovely stories based on Handa’s Surprise. In maths, we have worked hard to add and subtract numbers within 20, and we are working together to solve some tricky ‘deepen it’ challenges each lesson! We have also explored a range of maps in geography, our five senses in science, and we have designed and created fruit kebabs in our design and technology lessons. Well done Year One!

Jonathan Jungle visits Y6 7th Feb 2022 - 74 images

Jonathan’s Jungle Roadshow visited Y6 on Friday and they spent a fantastic day encountering a range of rainforest creatures. They also learnt about so much science based on the animals’ habitats, adaptations, classification and reproduction. You’ll really enjoy these photos!

Year 6 children have been learning about keeping our bodies and minds healthy and happy. On Sunday 8th March, many children ran or walked 2km at Junior Parkrun. Lets hope they develop healthy habits that last a lifetime.

From Spider Man to Where's Wally, the children demonstrated their love of books by dressing up in their favourite book character. In the afternoon the Infant and Junior children enjoyed reading together - what a great day!

Y5 Control Workshop

Children in Y5 took part in a computer control workshop run by STEMworks and supported by actual engineers. The children were challenged to build and then program their robots to complete a series of tasks for which they received points. The winning teams will look forward to a trip to GE Aviation to learn more about being engineers. Skills such as problem solving, team work and perseverance were on show from all the children to complete this tricky yet fun activity.

Year 6 enjoyed their STEM workshops where they had to design and build themed carnival floats made from KNEX. All the models were judged and the winning pair of children will represent our school at a design event at Renishaw’s Innovation Centre later in the year.

As part of their science topic on forces, the children in Year 5 devised games that involved one of friction, air resistance or water resistance. To test these games out, the children in Year 2 came to the Junior School and had a go! Each of the games were run by the older children and scientific explanations were given to the younger children to help them understand what forces were at work.

An unusual property dispute calls year three into action! Our tremendous cast of actors successfully got to the bottom of what seemed to be a straight forward case. However, with the distractions of “mastermind” style game shows, dancing sheep and singing stars all seemed far from ordinary. Yet through the commotion that unfolded, the presence of a newly born Jesus made all clear to see. Our poignant message to live in peace and harmony with one another was successfully delivered through donkeys and cows. We are so proud of all the year three performances and all the hard work and dedication that went on behind the scenes. Over and out… BASE CAMP!

Open The Book - The Christmas Story!

Open the Book (OtB) is a project which offers our pupils an opportunity to hear key Bible stories, from a team of Christians from local churches, who present the stories. We have an amazing Open The Book Team and would like to thank them for their hard work, dedication and amazing storytelling!

In preparation for an upcoming tournament, children from Y5 were coached in the sport of Kinball. This was an entirely new game for all of the children and provided some interesting challenges and skills which are very different to those used in many other sports.
